Experience of writing on the Nomad was quite satisfactory. Though sometimes frustrating due to Android screen refresh quirks and handwriting “keyboard’s” occasional mis-recognition issues, overall it felt similar to using an old Palm-era handheld.

The Nomad can also function as an e-reader, supporting various file formats including PDF and EPUB.

The Book

Nomadic lifestyles offer an ideal way to expand your horizons and learn about new cultures, customs and perspectives that may transform how you see the world. But living this way doesn’t mean relaxing on a beach and never worrying about money again!

Nomads face many of the same difficulties as everyone else: finding work, keeping their vehicle maintained and in good repair, dealing with health issues and finding places to live. Yet nomads also enjoy great opportunities to embrace diversity, learn from other cultures, and enrich lives one meal at a time.

Phil embarks on an amazing year-long digital nomad journey that will leave you laughing, cringing, thinking and inspired. From indulging in fine vegan cuisine and romancing various suitors to discovering remote destinations and cultural indoctrinations he mentors others universally about healthy diets and lifestyles while raising funds for animal rights organizations and teaching shelter children how to grow their own food, this book is both engaging and educational; an essential read for avid travelers.

The Author

This popular travelogue takes readers on an unforgettable year-long journey that will leave them laughing, thinking and learning. His tales of self-discovery, love & adventure cover a range of personal and universal topics which will resonate with anyone who has traveled widely or dreamed of doing so.

The Nomad’s loading screen states “For those who write” which tells all; this device was designed specifically to recreate the experience of writing and organizing ideas in a paper notebook with all of the benefits offered by digital formats – infinite pages, online sync, searchable folders and stylus that makes writing feel like old Palm OS handhelds!

Notes in Nomad are easily and intuitively added, with headings for pages creating an automatic table of contents or using keywords to organize notes into meaningful groupings that make finding information simpler.

The Nomad runs Android 11’s Chauvet operating system, which has been specifically tailored for e-ink reading devices like this one, but still contains some hiccups – like slow page animations and lack of home screen or multitasking features. The included Kindle app works well enough on the Nomad, yet does not seem integrated with its surrounding environment (for instance annotating is not possible). While this may not seem important at first glance, it should nonetheless be pointed out as this may become an issue over time.

The Review

A contemporary tale of self-discovery, this memoir describes its author’s transformation from a hectic career to a nomadic lifestyle filled with peace and purpose. Her journey from African safaris to Vietnam monasteries and South American ruins all the way to Indonesia’s Island of the Gods offers exciting adventures shared with her daughter while unearthing wisdom from teachers encountered along the way – living from her heart transcending any personal pettiness or cultural strife is the golden thread running throughout this book.

This book is an extremely useful and informative resource for anyone considering living a nomadic lifestyle, covering everything from equipment and budgeting to selecting an approach that is tailor-made for them. I particularly appreciated Barron’s explanations regarding digital nomads vs slowmads; many individuals can get confused between the terms. He states that digital nomads travel frequently between destinations like tourists while slowmads focus on long-term travel by staying put for 2-6 months at a time.

The book also contains many delicious food recipes. My favorites were French Canadian Tourtiere, Rhubarb Custard Pie and Scalloped Cabbage recipes; each are straightforward with clear pictures to follow along. Furthermore, the authors share openly about their experience as well as providing many helpful tips and brand recommendations.
